What is "Candida" and what are the symptoms?

I tried researching it, but the explanations are too complicated. I think its some sort of Fungus or yeast infection in your body/mouth,etc.
Can someone tell me what it is in their own words? No copy and pasting from some website.

You’re right basically it is an overgrowth of fungus. It happens when the body’s immune system is out of kilter, i.e. if you take antibiotics or steroids. The most usual symptom is thrush, which manifests as white, sore lumps in the mouth or genitals. It can also cause tiredness, itchy skin etc. The best way to cure it is to cut out all sugar, and cut down on refined carbohydrates, take a probiotic supplement and avoid yeast products such as vinegar, marmite, bread etc
