With the rubitussin it should only last a few days. I do use lysol spray all around the house. They will sneeze when you first spray it.
If your vet advised against antibiotics, it may be best to respect her opinion. Many dogs with kennel cough are not given any medication for a reason. Antibiotics affect dogs the same as people: it can actually make them feel worse if there’s no need for it. They can develop digestive problems, diarrhea, and dehydration. That is why your vet didn’t give you any in the first place. I would be very very careful trying to treat your dog on your own, you could aggravate the condition instead of helping.
In the future, make sure both your new puppy and older dog have yearly vaccines against kennel cough- they can pick it up from almost anywhere dogs are found, and as you know, it’s very contagious. Good luck with your babies!
You can actually give dogs echinacea tablets they help boost the immune system. Also try giving him natural unprocessed honey just a couple of teaspoons a day. Get it from a health store. It will help ease the cough and its a natural antibiotic. Good luck.
i got a puppy from the shelter near me back in march, she had kennel cough and spread it to my other dog. i took them to my vet and i can’t remember but i’m pretty sure they gave me medicine to put in their food.
i wish i knew, ginger, and honey works on humans
A human cold is a virus for humans, just as kennel cough is a virus for dogs. Antibiotics wouldn’t do us any good and they won’t do any good for your dog. You just have to wait and let the virus work through.
