Is it possible to get a false negative std screening?
About a month ago I had an std screening done at my local doctor’s office. At the time of the visit, I did have several lesions on my penis. The doctor believed it may have been herpes, I thought it may have been syphilis. But all of the test came back negative. About 3 days after the screening the lesions went away, and now another one is starting to form. Is it possible I got a false negative or is it something else.

a false nagative reading? Oh no, thats a bad sign. check with youyr doctor and get another test. don’t be one man epicdemic.
I am not sure about with syphillis or herpes, but I know that it is possible with AIDS/HIV. Sometimes it can take months or years to show up. It may or may not be that way with these other STD;s…ask your doctor.
did u get checked for Penal Leprosy??? its the newest std goin around that comes and goes
I suppose it is possible to have a false negative or perhaps the test was interpreted wrong. Syphillis testing is an agglutination type of procedure and the end result is interpreted by sight. Much of these types of tests are serology and are agglutination tests. Although it is possible, it is not very probable.
In any event, go back and have the doc look again.
I’m no doctor but that sounds like thrush. So if I were you I’d pay the doc another visit. You can get it in a variety of ways, even a change of climate so it’s no big deal.
false negatives and positives are possible with all STD screenings, because no test is 100% accurate. there is good news and bad news.
good news: if you get a positive, meaning you have an STD, they will test again to make sure the test was accurate.
bad news: if you get a false negative, meaning the test says you don’t have an STD, then you don’t get a second test and are sent on your merry way. this is bad because it leaves the option open for you to remain untreated and infect others. if the lesions have returned, i suggest you get a second test and if your doc still continues to poo-poo it, get a second opinion. perhaps some other medical issue is the cause. either way, penis lesions aren’t normal and should be examined.
Go to a different doctor now. They have to do a swab and a blood test. The swab should be one the lesions themselves and well as a little inside the urthrea. You can open a lesion for the doctor if it is closed like a white head on a pimple. Pinch the top so the liquid can be tested. Also there is something else that can cause lesions and this is gross. Do you sit down sometimes when you pee? If your penis touches the inside of the toilet bowl by accident the bacteria can get into the top layer of skin and cause infections – staff, ecoli, strep, etc. These can be transmitted too. A lady friend had a bad problem when the doctor tested her for what they thought was a yeast infection. The test came back with a mix of staff, eccoli, etc. It was because her husband sat down when he peed and those things got on him. Go to a different doctor and make him help you.
First off — Yes. It is always possible to get a false result – either negative or positive.; Any or another test should double check yout concerns. However, since we are talking about a health/commuicable disease — make sure you get your testing and results done for FREE!! – Good luck man.
Absolutely (you could have gotten a false negative test result). There are different ways to test for various STDs. Some are more sensitive than others (better able to pick up the STD if there actually is an STD). Syphilis isn’t actually very common and once the lesion disappears it doesn’t come back (although unless you have been treated you still are infected) so your lesion probably isn’t syphilis. Recurring genital lesions are often herpes. Your doctor may have done a less sensitive test (often doctors will do a viral culture for herpes which often comes back negative even though the person is actually positive). You should go back to your doctor and tell him that you are having recurring symptoms. There is no cure for genital herpes, but your doctor can give you medication to make the outbreaks last a shorter time. Genital herpes is very infectious (even when you can’t see any lesions) so you should aways use protection when you have sex. Hope this helps.
herpes can be only detected by visual, followed by a blood test if he only took a culture herpes would have not shown up.
What type of test did they do? Blood tests for herpes can come back negative. As far as I am aware a swab test while lesions are present is the most accurate test for herpes.
I’m not certain about other STDs though.
