Is having oral sex safe if you have bacterial vaginosis?
Hi. I’m doing a research paper on bacterial vaginosis and one of the points I’m researching is a man giving a woman oral sex when she has bacterial vaginosis. I need to know if it would be harmful to the man, and if there is any disease he can contract by performing oral sex on his female partner. Bacterial vaginosis is not an STD, however, it is an infection.
Thank you.

It is unclear how women get BV. It seems to be associated with sexual activity but women may get it without being sexually active. It is most likely an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria found in the vagina. Too much bad, not enough good. What is known is that there is no infection like bacterial vaginosis (BV) found in men. For all of these reasons it is very unlikely that a man would be harmed by having oral sex with an infected woman.
However, one of the most common symptoms of BV is having a vaginal discharge with a very strong, embarrassing odor. So it is very unlikely that this has a chance to be tested very often, if you know what I mean.
Im not sure I dont think so

I think it’s ok since bacterial vaginosis is just due to an imbalance of bacteria–i can’t imagine it would be pleasurable for the man, but I don’t think an over-abundance of bacteria in a woman’s system could harm his mouth
I do not agree, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
No harm will come to the man if oral sex is performed on a woman with BV. Although I would imagine the odor of the discharge would discourage this behavior.
