How soon after you start antibiotics do they affect your birth control?
I have been taking Tri-Sprintec (generic for Ortho-Tricylcen) for over a year. I was prescribed antibiotics (Augmentin) for a UTI. I started the antibiotics on day 9 of my b.c. pack… and my husband and I had unprotected sex two days after I started the antibiotics. Is it possible that my birth control could have failed that soon and that I might get pregnant?

Usually when the antibiotics effect bc your doctor will tell you to use other measures. I would call and find out if they do interfere. If they did it would happen pretty quickly so you could possibly be pregnant.
It’s a possiblity, but test if you miss/are late,by stressing over it you WILL be late. Try to not stress, and remember,it’s more likely that you’re not,but that chance is indeed there.
not all antibiotic effect BC nor are all BC effected at all by BC call your dr in the morn tell them the BC and antibiotic and see if there a issue, tho normally if a dr prescribes one of the know BC effectors they will as if you are on BC and what kind….
yes!! you are supposed to use back up birth control from the time you take the first dose of antibiotics. especially since you had been on the antibiotics for a whole two days it very well may have affected your birth control. didn’t your dr. tell you to use a back-up form of birth control when you were prescribed the augmentin? well, anyway, good luck!! Hopefully it all turns out for the best.
It’s possible. the antibiotics affect the bc right away.
