How much penicillin do you give a 12 pound cat with a urinary tract infection?
And where do you give the shot?
Thanks to all who were concerned about my cat (Taz thanks you too). This is a medication that was prescribed for him earlier. My sister lived with me then and handled his care. Our vet has been closed the last couple of weeks due to ill health (we live out in the country). The folks on Yahoo Answer are pretty quick to respond so I was trying to get it in him as quickly as possible. I’ve had several cats over the years and all but one lived to be 15 or older (Taz is 10 now) so I am not an irreponsible pet owner (the duh’s really aren’t necessary). Thanks again for the concern of my cat’s well being.

Maybe you can contact another vet in another city and ask? Let them know you’re experience and they can probably give you advise. Good Luck
Give the amount your vet says to give in the place your vet says to give it. I’m assuming you bought this at the co-op. For the first time you need the guidance of a professional.
As much as your veterinarian tells you to. You did take the cat to the vet, didn’t you?
The amount recommended by your vet. And it’s a pill and not penicillin.
Ask your vet…
If you medicate the cat with medicine that was not prescribed by the vet you could kill it. If you don’t know how much to give then I can only imagine that you didn’t take the cat to the vet. If you got the medicine from the vet and can’t remember how much to give it then call the vet back and ask for an explanation of the dosage.
these are questions to be answered from your vet
Not all urinary tract problems have concomittant infections and any antibiotic may have no effect whatsoever. The problem is most likely an imbalance in the pH of the cat’s urine causing the formation of struvite crystals which can totally block the cat from urinating and cause death within 48 hours from uremic poisoning. It is not something for you to play around with and diagnose or treat yourself.
Too much antibiotic of any sort can destroy the beneficial bacteria in the gut and cause other problems.
It’s NOT an injection but it’s Amoxicillin – and the Vet neds to prescribe the Correct Dose.
Is your cat male? A Urinary tract infection can kill him because he is blocked up. If your cat is a female the Urinary tract Infection is just as infectious.
ask the vet duhhh it should be prescribed
Is the medication you have a pill or a shot? Just follow the directions from the earlier illness and at least the cat will be started on the penicillin and you can adjust the dosage when you can find your vet.
I might try calling a vet at the closest SPCA, just don’t give them your name in case they think you are not a good parent.
And if you have an ASPC close they will let you bring the cat to their doctors.
lots of luck.
