Thrush is essentially a yeast infection in the mouth. As others have posted, it can be hard to treat, and is easy to keep re-infecting the baby if you have yeast on you (for breastfeeding) or if the nipples and bottle parts are not completely sterilized after each use.

Your doctor should give you something like Nystatin oral rinse for the baby - and you may need to be treated with an antifungal (for yeast) like Diflucan if you are breastfeeding. It won't go away quickly since it is hard to treat because yeast loves and thrives in moist environments.

Cleaning your baby's mouth with a clean damp washcloth after each feeding, and before applying medication to the mouth may help. It isn't anything to freak out about - it is more of a nuisance than a danger if it is being treated.

Good luck!

My son had it as a few days old, and with medication was gone in a few days. Once bubs has finished his medication, then if its not gone, consult your doctor again

while you are continuing to give the baby the medicine make sure that his/her bottles (nipples) are sterile . that includes a passy. and make sure that your hands are clean when handling their things . espicially things that go in their mouth . that is a big way that they get thrush.

Both of my children had thrush...and it didn't take long for it to clear up. I would call your doctor and see if there is another antibiotic you can give to your son. It is painful and it makes it hard for a baby to nurse...call the Dr. soon!

My daughter has thrush. Shes been on medication since about 5 weeks old. She is almost 8.5 weeks old now. When I took her back to the doctor he said just keep using the medication. It can take monthes to go away.
This is my 4th child and our 3rd time dealing with thrush. I too thought it should have gone away by now. But nope.
Part of the issue is I am nursing and we are probably passing it back and forth. :-(

Check with your babys doctor but he is probably okay too.
I put Alyssas meds in her mouth with a q-tip. It helps spread it all around.

If you're breastfeeding, put the med on your breast before you feed. You could be passing the infection back and forth.
