…do they have Herpes 1 or Herpes 2? About 80% of the population has Herpes 1 in their mouth (that’s the one that gives you cold sores) there’s really no avoiding it. It’s also not really that big of a deal, most people get it in infancy from relatives kissing them :p You could have Herpes 1 and not even know it.
Herpes 2 is a different story…. I would kinda lean back and politely ask them to not kiss me. You don’t have to say why. Just that you don’t want to be kissed. Hopefully your family will respect your personal space enough to leave it there.
Tell them you have the asian bird flu and it’s very contagious…
Tell them to f**k off and that you’re HSV2 Negative. And intend on staying that way
Just tell them you don’t like to be kissed. If they only try to do it rarely, you can say that you are sick.
Don’t listen to indigo, she’s just one of the many in denial. First off, it’s 60-80 percent of the population, no one is sure. Don’t listen to any person who tells you that that herpes type 1 is "no big deal" and then turns around and tells you that type 2 is. All it means is that they are infected and don’t want to alienate themselves, like so many others in the population. I have been tested and don’t have type 1 or 2 and woudn’t let anyone that I don’t know kiss me. Contrary to what she says, many people get type 1 from kissing other infected people not as kids. The whole "I got it as a kid" excuse is blown out of proportion and many use it to pass off the blame that they contracted herpes due to their own negligent behavior.
Misery loves company and most people won’t purposfully ostacize themselves so they, and the medical community, downplay the seriousness of Herpes type 1, while demonizing Herpes type 2. HERPES IS HERPES! Just so you know, 6 out of every 10 new cases of genital herpes in 2007 was from Herpes type 1, not 2. There is a very serious misconception that Herpes 1 (cold sores) are "harmless" and "no big deal." This ignorant stance, plus the heresay that "everyone has it", leads people believe that they can’t pass on what everyone else already has and that is a false belief. HERPES IS NASTY, whether it’s type 1 or 2. Get tested to make sure you don’t have either type and if you don’t have either one, I wouldn’t recommend kissing anyone that hasn’t been tested
If anyone ever tells you that type 1 is "no big deal," ask them if they have it. The answer will be yes 100% of the time. Then ask them what they think of type 2. You will get a completely different answer. They will say that it is "nasty" and that it is "what you should watch out for." It’s so contradictory. Sixty to eighty percent of the population already have a type of herpes, yet many of them would never date someone with genital herpes.
