Help – How long does it take before chlamydia starts to cause infertility?

I got rushed to hospital with severe pains. I got told i have chlamydia. Am i probaly already infertile if i have had it for either 3 years. or 8 months. ??

I’m not sure exactly how long it takes for infertility to become apparent but i would like to say to the very naieve commenter who answered first, that i also contracted chlamydia and had no symptoms until i had agonizing lower back and stomache pain for two weeks straight it was only then my doctor told me to see a gynocologist. There are alot of s.t.i’s that go without symptoms. Ignorant people just make the whole situation worse.

In pregnant women, there is some evidence that untreated chlamydial infections can lead to premature delivery. Babies who are born to infected mothers can get chlamydial infections in their eyes and respiratory tracts. Chlamydia is a leading cause of early infant pneumonia and conjunctivitis (pink eye) in newborns.
It’s possibly you could already be infertile. Ive had it for about 6 months and I just noticed it myself due to severe abdominal and pelvic pains. But only a doctor can tell you for sure.
I feel for you on this one–I’ve been curious about the answer to that question for awhile now. The thing with untreated chlamydia (which you may already know) is that it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, which can cause scarring in the fallopian tubes. No one knows how long it takes for this to happen, because it varies from person to person. So no one, without knowing if you have fallopian scarring or not, can tell you if you are infertile.
