Yes, I put the dosage amount in my 8 month old’s formula each night. We started because of being on antibiotics, too.
Yes actually! I believe in them. I have a nephew with extreme excema. Even though the acidopholus (live cultures) aid digestion, they eat away yeast! So if your baby is over 6 months, he/she can eat plain yogurt (the kind with live cultures exceeding 1 billion) mixed in with their baby food. Just in case people are wondering, yogurt is not like drinking cow milk. Plain yogurt is ok for children. There is even a special yogurt for babies called YO BABY!
They are very good. Good for preventing ear infections also. Keep some handy. They work well for adults with diarrhea also. Probiotics cure and prevent yeast infections in women. Very good stuff.
I’ve heard of it, and gave my daughter some whole milk plain yogurt (with the live cultures) when we were fighting thrush. She eats it everyday anyway.
Antibiotics are good in theory, but far too overused, which has led to strains of bacteria becoming resistant to the medicine! They should only be used in dire situations.
She hasn’t needed antibiotics yet, but when she does, I’ll be giving her plenty of yogurt and some acidophilus as well. Antibiotics kill ALL bacteria, good and bad, which is really hard on immune systems, and leads to lovely things like yeast infections.
I had not heard of this until I talked to the pharmacist at CVS when Noah was on antibiotics for an ear infection. The pharmacist recommended them for loose stools. The doctor recommended lots of carbs and yogurt. CVS has probiotics behind the counter. You have to ask for them.
Yes, we’ve used them with antibiotics before. It keeps the yeast from taking over in their digestive tract.
Adults and formula-fed babies’ digestive tract are colonized with acidophilus, but breastfed babies guts are colonized with lactobacillus, so be sure to repopulate it with the appropriate probiotic.
I did when take them myself and give them to my son for yeast diaper rash. I should take them all the time (or eat better), I used to and it does make me feel better.
It’s not a big deal. It’s the stuff that’s really good for you in yogurt. It’s not medicine, like the antibiotic was. You probably could have saved yourself a bit of money (depending on how old your child is) by giving her the yogurt that comes in a green thing in packs of 4 or 6. I can’t remember the name of it but it has a womans midsection on the package with an arrow pointing down. It’s usually above the single packs of yogurt in the grocery store.
Anitbiotics destroy all bacteria in your body – including the good bacteria.
So even as an adult, it’s suggested you make an effort to eat yogurt (which contain probiotics) when you’re on antibiotics to replace the good bacteria that the antibiotics are destroying.
i don’t know the rules and regulations about giving it to babies but guess its ok if your doctor suggested it!
Yes, I’ve heard of this. In fact, there was a study recently that showed that probiotics were more effective in treating colic than any other treatment.

yes it really works that or natural LIVE yogurt a teaspoonful,it replaces the good bacteria that the anti biotics kill off causing the loose stools in the first place
I believe it is to aid in digestion of food. No, I have not.
Probiotics are wonderful for everyone (all ages). My son had tons of ear infections when he was little which pretty much kept him on antibiotics constantly and caused lots of diarrhea. If I gave him probiotics, the diarrhea would clear up and not cause any problems. Probiotics also help with yeast infections, etc. Basically they are a blend of different forms of good bacteria. Sometimes your body doesn’t regulate your intestinal bacteria very well or if you take antibiotics, they can destroy the good bacteria while also killing the bad bacteria and this will help restore the balance. I HIGHLY recommend them.
