A question about vaginal yeast infection?
I’m 22 years old. To my knowledge, I’ve never had a vaginal yeast infection- unless I somehow had one in my toddler years that I didn’t know about, or had one that went undetected since now. I actually didn’t even know the symptoms of the infection until I privately discussed my current problem with my mother. After researching it online, using Monistat and drinking Cranberry juice for the past four days, I’m actually starting to wonder if it’s a yeast infection at all.
My symptoms for the past four days has been a very mild watery discharge and painful burning spots on my vaginal vestibule. (They physically aren’t that noticeable however). I do not have a "smell", "thrush", or "redness" that has been described online, but it is painful to urinate.
Also, I haven’t been sexually active for a year, nor have I just started to be. I was thinking perhaps the sudden yeast infection has been the cause of too much beer drinking? I have no idea, but I’ll appreciate any comments on my personal issue. I suppose I should say I’ve never been to the OBGYN in my life, but will do so as soon as my Access card comes in the mail.
–Thanks xx

There is another common infection that women can get (actually it is more common that a yeast infection)
It is called Bacterial Vaginosis- Some of the symptoms you describe could be BV – however, there is usually a ‘fishy’ type smell that accompanies BV. (Not always, tho.)
This bacterial infection requires a diagnoses by a gynocologist, because it requires a prescription medication.
Before continuing to keep treating your symptoms, it would be wise to seek your doctor.
You possiblly could try using Vagisil or a 1% hydrocortisone cream or ointment (over the counter) and see if this might help the burning etc.)
Hope this helps.
Your decision to see a gynecologist is a wise one. There are, as others have suggested, a variety of bacterial infections that can cause the symptoms you’re experiencing. There are also some fairly serious non-bacteriological situations that can do the same. Most, if detected early, can be corrected…the earlier, the better.
